Field (Sea) report from a roving reporter.....

I received this report on the last 2 races of the Yaringa series today...... Yaringa Sandy Point Race - Sat 14 April A fascinating tactical battle was observed during the Yaringa Sandy Point Race, - consensus was that Quicklips (QL) appeared intimidated by Shuttle and was seen to be covering Shuttle’s every move on the return leg. Of particular interest was their thinly veiled plan to lure the deeper drafted touring boat into the shallows near Hanns Inlet. This ruse whilst devilishly cunning in the light airs did not tempt Shuttle, as they stayed alert in deeper water and did not follow QL into their own trap. Once QL refloated, the remaining return leg was curiously reminiscent of the tacking duels off Freo in the 1983 Americas Cup. Yaringa Mystery Race – Sat 28th April More recently the QL Crew was referred to as “Soft Chooks” apparently in reference to their non start in the beautiful and dry Yaringa Mystery Race last Saturday. The disappointingly small Multihulls entry list was heavily felt by the faithful all weather Shuttle crew (not soft Chooks), but resulted in a very exciting finish with a tacking duel of epic proportions with the exquisitely sailed ‘The Colonel’ to the finish line. QL presence was sorely missed (as were all the other Multi’s). – Come on Boys ! This Roving reporter looks forward to full fields of Multi’s for the upcoming HYC Winter Series beginning Sat June 2 so they may experience the craft & guile of Quickskips as they seek joyous sailing and success (& redress).
