Field (Sea) report from a roving reporter.....
I received this report on the last 2 races of the Yaringa series today......
Yaringa Sandy Point Race - Sat 14 April
A fascinating tactical battle was observed during the Yaringa Sandy Point Race, - consensus was that Quicklips (QL) appeared intimidated by Shuttle and was seen to be covering Shuttle’s every move on the return leg.
Of particular interest was their thinly veiled plan to lure the deeper drafted touring boat into the shallows near Hanns Inlet. This ruse whilst devilishly cunning in the light airs did not tempt Shuttle, as they stayed alert in deeper water and did not follow QL into their own trap.
Once QL refloated, the remaining return leg was curiously reminiscent of the tacking duels off Freo in the 1983 Americas Cup.
Yaringa Mystery Race – Sat 28th April
More recently the QL Crew was referred to as “Soft Chooks” apparently in reference to their non start in the beautiful and dry Yaringa Mystery Race last Saturday.
The disappointingly small Multihulls entry list was heavily felt by the faithful all weather Shuttle crew (not soft Chooks), but resulted in a very exciting finish with a tacking duel of epic proportions with the exquisitely sailed ‘The Colonel’ to the finish line.
QL presence was sorely missed (as were all the other Multi’s). – Come on Boys !
This Roving reporter looks forward to full fields of Multi’s for the upcoming HYC Winter Series beginning Sat June 2 so they may experience the craft & guile of Quickskips as they seek joyous sailing and success (& redress).

V12 hits the shores on 24 May
Club Members dominate Multi Regattas
The Marley Point race was won by Tony Considine on APC Max followed by George Bulka on Redshift. Line Honours in the Adelaide to Port Lincoln Race was taken out by Martyn Riley in Raw to the Core (Bloomfield 30) crossing the line ahead of the 98' Maxi Skandia in conditions that were not ideal for multihulls, and was unbeaten over the line in the following Port Lincoln Regatta where Dale Gardner Berry came second on handicap. Most recently we Victorians took out the first two positions over the line in the hazardous Brisbane to Gladstone Race that saw two catamarans capsize (Rongntudjuuu and The Dancing Emu); Martyn Riley taking line honours on Raw Nerve (well ahead of the leanding monohull - Ichi Ban) followed by Tony Considine's APC Max.

April General Meeting Feedback
Highlight of the meeting was a talk by Chris Mitchell describing the journey to get his Access dinghies accepted by the yachting fraternity and general public alike. The video footage of some disabled sailors excelling in their new found sport on an equal footing against the able bodied was both inspirational and uplifting.
With the AGM occuring in August, we will have time for 1 further general meeting in early June. We are trying to get Paul Larson as our main guest speaker. Paul recently totalled his "Sail Rocket" whilst practising for the world sail speed record. He was doing 33 knots in 16.5 knots of wind ( a bit faster then Quickskips), dumped his main a little too quickly and the resulting compressive loads caused huge amounts of damage...
Will all rusty cruising sailors please put 5th May in your diaries. We plan to have a "May Multi Muster" at Cape Woolamai. Unless you can fit under the bridge at San Remo, we plan to poke our heads out into the Bass straight, turn left and amble down to Woolamai on Saturday morning. After an overnight Muster, we will poke our heads back out again and return home. Planning is in its infancy at the moment, and we are looking to Alex for leadership, but if you like the idea a quick email to me at tappers@bigpond.com indicating possible attendance would be good.
Only 2 races left on the Summer series calendar... hope to see as many as possible on Saturday..
