Hastings Race 5 update

A large fleet of Mono’s and 4 Multi’s mustered off MS2. Quickskips, the Multi series leaders, appeared jittery, probably because Shuttle was back! It is not inconceivable that Shuttles intimidatory tactics have spurred the Quicklips crew to the next level, very timely too with the Nationals looming.

The course set was 3 sausages … a beat up to 35 and then a broad reach down to 27. Mustang Sally appeared to engage in some friendly barging at the start but eventually all cleanly away. The  Scarlett Pepperell romped away initially, but the whole fleet pondered his classic donut at the top mark, & general consensus was that it was a bit of showboating! (Our thoughts are with you Clarky. Why not try Lib as skip ?) The more conservative crews were content to indulge in the finer more elegant moves like a flawlessly timed, brilliantly executed Lee Bow tack on Fleetwing leading to the top mark, - Its amazing how well the modest crew of Shuttle manage to extract the turn of speed that they do from that touring Tri. The downwind leg on the first 2 sausages were perfect for high speed  fun… the wind had backed a little for the final sausage making it a little shy to fly the kite. The end result was a win for Shuttle, Mustang Sally the runners up and Quickskips down the back somewhere. Our thanks to the Hastings start boat for a well run race. What a good day for sailing though, finally, consistent and healthy breezes, - invigorating.
